We received the following note from Nan Leslie that we wanted to share with our readers, to encourage the new writers in our midst. This is the best example of our mission at The Fairfield Review, "to provide an outlet for poetry, short stories and essays from new and established writers that is accessible to the general public." Nan Leslie is one of the new authors we published during the past year. Her short story, The Package, may be found in our Summer, 2000 Issue. --egh. Date: 11/13/2000 To: FairfieldReview@hpmd.com Subject: Nan Leslie nominated for The Pushcart Prize Dear Edward Granger-Happ, I wanted to write to you and tell you how grateful I am that you saw potential in my work and chose to publish "The Package" early on in my writing career before I had substantial credits. I think often times editors are not told what a difference they have made in the lives of their writers, and in this case, since you were one of the first editors to publish my work I feel I owe you a debt of gratitude. After "The Package" was published, I had the good fortune to have a dozen more stories published, both online and in hard copy literary magazines. I also received the Fiction Award from The University of Washington Fiction Writer's Association Carve Magazine and was just informed that my story, "Bijou," is nominated for The Pushcart Prize. It will also be published in an anthology. I'm sharing this with you because you helped launch my literary career and for that I am truly grateful. Thank you for creating such a lovely and stellar literary magazine. Yours truly, Leslie N. Coleman (Pen Name: Nan Leslie) |
