Story
By Gordon Edwards

He tells
me of the story
he has in mind:
a photographer
and a beautiful
woman,
taking pictures
for her lover.
It is the longing
in her eyes
that catches him
short
as a shutter-click

He sees
the open portal
in her eyes
the depth
of an ache
that is an
artesian well--
all her being
comes through
this glass
ampulla
and he is
taken.

Peering
into the tray
he sees
the image form
as the ripples
run to glaze:
his own eyes
bobbing in this
inner pool,
looking back,
blinking.
