The following poem was written by Halsted after reading John Jennings' story Moab, Utah which appears in this issue. The two authors began discussing this work as members of the Writer's Voice in Fairfield, CT. --jsg

John
By Halsted

he told me a story...

my, is he growing
thirty four feet

I can bear
corn in the fields of Nebraska
nested nodding,
near to
the track of the train
to Denver.
Bend your head
slightly to the right
see
they are planted in rows.

Listen to the nuance of
anima and animus
yin, yang
locus in the
graph
romantic and semolina.

Come to me with your stories
whisper them in my ear.
do not fear to
take a risk with me
I'm a night prince.
you weave
me strands of her hair
into a distraction
so I can only see the sunlight
of escape.

Keep growing
get so tall
I can not spot you from my world of
unreason.
