Variety in Repetition By Kelley Jean White The dance is different each time, it varies like a sonnet: a set number of beats, phrases, the turn at the end of the line; and you love, can count them better, you time each movement precisely; I've two left feet. I move aside, tying a shoe; every woman wants to dance with you, I'm lonely, measure after measure, you hold a new partner in your arms--I'm just this heavy person, waiting on the edges, ready to make certain you're laughing. If you knew I sent them to you, knew I cared only to watch your joy--know I would turn the sun to shine on your face, show what love's become. editor's note: reread this sonnet with a blind man in mind and the richness becomes apparent --egh |
