Tea Party
By Patty Mooney

After putting her off
for months, I resign
myself to visit Nancy,
my friend who is a hen.
She serves hors d'oeuvres
on an axe blade, something
she saw on Martha Stewart.
My favorite is the Braunsweiger
on Ritz crackers with capers.
Then the hen says to close
my eyes and open my mouth
for a surprise. I curl my tongue
and taste a fleet of mosquitoes
dipped in chocolate. She knows
my weakness for insects!
It's from Emeril Lagassi, she beams.
