Silence
by Nora Currandera

us,
Babel people sleeping together by the fire
not daring to look at each other
each muttering noises
searching signs by day:
what an arrow might be,
what the sounds of the infant's lips
on the nibble
and meaning by night:
in the crumbles left by the bird
in our scraps
left for each other
