About The Fall 2006 Edition

Dear Reader,

Welcome to the Fall 2006 issue of The Fairfield Review. The leaves have been shaken from the trees in this part of the world while the most recent cold front's winds circled the crisp brown remnants in the driveway. Only the Bradford Pear holds its leaves relentlessly-- this harbinger of spring, now a yellow brown crown. A full moon rose early this evening, the days ever withering before the solstice. Snow is in the forecast and breathing is visible, as only winter reveals. Come gather by the fireplace and read the kindling of poetry.

We welcome many new writers for our readers in this issue. Fifteen of our seventeen authors for this issue are new to The Fairfield Review: three are teachers, four are students, and two are publishing poetry for the first time. We are pleased to include, once again, Andrea Alterman and Robert James Berry who appeared in recent issues.

Our classic poem for this issue is Robert Frost's Good Hours.

Editors' Choice Awards go Jenn Blair for her poem When, to Julie L. Moore for her poem White-breasted Nuthatch, and Carmel L. Morse for her poem Art Lesson with Aunt Emma. Information about all our contributors may be found on our About the Authors page.

As in the spring issue, we are offering a simple link (below) to our Table of Contents rather than the "narrative tour" through the issue. Let us know if you prefer this format; send us your comments and suggestions for future issues by filling out our Guest Book or dropping us a note via email to fairfieldreview at hpmd dot com **

Thank you to all have supported The Fairfield Review with your donations, but importantly by your reading and telling others. We continue to receive encouraging feedback on our first printed publication: The Best of the Fairfield Review: 1997 - 2002. The book, which highlights our favorite offerings from our first six years, is available on-line. Please take a peek, and order a copy for your summer reading. Your support goes directly towards the continuation of our free, on-line publication, and we thank you for your ongoing interest and enthusiasm on our behalf.

Starting with our Winter 2005 issue, we have changed the closing dates for submissions. Based on your feedback and the volume of work we are now receiving, we agreed that it was too long from the time authors sent us their work and when they heard our final decisions. Closing dates for the Winter issue are now September 30 and for the Summer issue March 31. Our reading cycle will start thereafter and run for 90 days (evening hours permitting. )

January marks the tenth anniversary of our on-line journal. It is hard to believe that a decade has come and gone. Perhaps this is a sign that good poetry is alive and well in cyber space. We will have more to say about our anniversary year after the holidays, including a special issue to commemorate the event. Best wishes to you and yours for the holidays and New Year. Stay warm, enjoy good company, and write often.
