The Fairfield Review

Welcome! This is the premier issue of The Fairfield Review, an on-line literary magazine by Fairfield County, Connecticut writers. We began this magazine to meet a number of needs of new and established writers in our area.

First, there is simply no journal --on-line or off-line-- in our area that is dedicated to presenting authors of poetry, short stories and essays (aside from the University publications in the state). That is ironic for a area bulging with creative talent. We hope to change that.

Second, to our knowledge, there is no journal in Connecticut with a goal to encourage publication for "the new writer." We know how difficult it is to get that first piece accepted. We believe strongly that one way to promote artistic development and maturity is to offer a venue for the budding author. We aim to do that, while still keep an eye on quality.

Third, we want to encourage the student writers in our area to pursue their artistic writing talents. We hope to form a writing partnership with the local schools to publish the best student work in each issue. Taking our lead from the Annual Stamford Literary Competition, sponsored by the Friends of Fergusen Library, we are inviting students from fourth (4th) through twelfth (12th) grades to submit their original work for consideration. Area college students will also be invited to participate.

Fourth, we want to create a "clearing house" for writing related events in our area. Each quarter we intend to publish a list of upcoming readings, workshops and contests for the short-form writer. In addition, we will attempt to publish winners in slams and other contests held in our area.

Finally, we want to establish an on-line dialog with other writers, not only in our area of Fairfield County, Connecticut but worldwide. The Internet provides a forum for all to become part of a community of the creative writing arts. In the near future, we hope to offer on-line discussion forums, writing workshops, and contests based on feedback from you, the reader.

Please send us your comments and suggestions. Again, welcome to The Fairfield Review. We are delighted to have you visit us and our fellow artists.
