Why I Want to Live in Mexico By Cary Griffith Actually, it's about moving down a notch or two, not just from first world to third, but from a place where digital time is plugged into the national grid to a place where clocks, if you have one, are still wound by hand. Moving to Mexico is about changing skies; from wintry, gray, scudding clouds to angled white Caribbean light. South of this border they speak a different language, the peso has 1/10th the value of a dollar, children play with toys carved out of wood, and dreams are still considered divine communication. I'm hoping to recover the way, some boyhood Summer days, I kneeled beside streams and watched water flow over rocks for hours. |
