Side by Side
By Fran Levin

we dancethe dance

He said
he would die
on his 80th birthday
this man
who came into my life
like an angel
asked me to dance
cradled me in pure pleasure
spoke to me as if
he could read the book of my life
and broke my heart open

beyond form
we dance

beyond form
the dance we dance

I want to remember death
my beloved companion
in life
the finite remembered
moves me
to the infinite
the finite
so precious
first held
and bound
then set free

beyond form
