The Blade and Wing
By Michelle Brooks

Sometimes there'd be fights
because peace wasn't that easy
even so many years after. "Any
place is Vietnam," one guy says
as I wipe up the spills around him.
The owner soaks peanuts in jalapeno
juice to keep everyone drinking and
college kids come in looking
for bad-asses after reading about this
bar in Soldier of Fortune. Nobody leaves
disappointed, and everyone startles
when someone new opens the door
and lets the light in, no matter how
quickly it becomes dark again.
