glug-glug
by Halsted

women, men, children
dogs, cats, and pigs
fat pigs
young pigs
a pig in a poke
contain
an essence that causes
the gums to pink up
scientists and nuns have it
gang members, tap dancers
the bi-polar,
all
swing to the rhythm of the glug-glug sound
and the essence moves their bodies
and their brains
see sights unsought.
Madness is no remedy
nor is goodness or evil
or faithfulness,
When the razor severs the jugular
the sight shuts off
the brain freezes
the glug-glug halts.
