The Light by Cortez B. Stokes The light is out! That bright light has burned out. From a flickering light it grew to a flame. But, now the light is out. Her struggle to hold onto a glimmer, not for herself, but so others could see yielded to the fuel of time and now the light is out. It has died after sharing with so many. Yet, she maintained it throughout many stormy days and nights. But, now the light is out. Her flame shrunk to a flickering light then to an ember, before darkness covered her eyes and now the light is out. The cold gray ember is the residue from her flame; surrounded now by ashes and now the light is out. The light is no more; even though it showed the way for so many. Now, it burns in the memory of those who saw it. © Copyright 1996, Cortez B. Stokes. All Rights Reserved. |
