Falling Asleep
By Halsted

free flow
free thought
What do I trap
in time?
A valium to take
before my sleep
the image flies
unconscious.
No processing is due
free flow
sight of the moon and molecules.
motion for motion’s sake
ice on the ivy
twitch in the limb
cramp in my space
spinning
colors of all things.
Lungs, liver and bone
Dissolving
list made to list
groceries, counting
long empty streets
last slide
fox in the hunt
cry of jay, grackle, crow.
distant
cry from within
fist of the dream
instant of starburst
instant of dream
all and nothing
sense of the senseless.
