          Summer 1981
          By Jack Bowman

          Sunbeams through the western windows
          through leaves of Eucalyptus
an orange hue of yellow light
along the wall catching a lamp
          a cherry wood table leg
          a memory of you

The voice that told humorous stories
          laughed almost in silence
          a great delivery,
          afternoons wrestling on the carpet
          your underwear in my teeth

the sun shines now as then
but youthful days are passed us
          the stars shift position
          and we are in different
          windows
          waiting for the sun.
