Even in a Kiss
By John Jeffrey

Even in a kiss there is enough softness
trembling to know the give of you
as I, behind, fold my arms around:
my left hand, above, finds you
arching in; my right explores
the fevered rise of your stomach,
and I begin the slow slide down.

Even in a kiss there is enough tightening
intensity to know the sinewy stretch of me,
as you, below, walk your fingers up my arms,
over my shoulders, and down the rolling valley
of my back, each fingertip alive, urgent, exciting
my muscles to movement; further, you crest
the twin curves of my most muscle and pull,
and I begin the slow slide down.

Even in a kiss there is enough heavy humidity,
enough swollen slip-sliding to know the buttery

opening of you, the full force filling by me,
our vigorous willingness. From this kiss,
we launch into tropical explorations;
Magellans of the flesh, we circumnavigate
the map of each other’s skin; our mouths,
our ships, run the fast rise up
and then begin the slow slide down.

Now, lover, come and kiss me.
