About The Spring 2006 Edition

Dear Reader,

Welcome to the Spring 2006 edition of The Fairfield Review. As we write, all the harbingers of spring have arrived in Connecticut in one warm weekend: the forsythia, magnolias, and daffodils return color to the gray landscape, robins peck at a lawn patched with new hints of green, and wrens seek out places for nests. This is poetry month and we are pleased to offer a new issue of stories and poems for the annual celebration of words.

We welcome a number of new and returning authors for our readers. Twelve of our 17 authors for this issue are new to The Fairfield Review, four are teachers and two are publishing work for the first time. We are pleased to include, once again, Bonnie Enes, John Jeffrey, Margaret Karmazin, Lyn Lifshin and Kelley Jean White, who have appeared in recent issues.

Our classic poem for this issue is E. E. Cumming's maggie and milly and molly and may.

Editors' Choice Awards go to Zdravka Evtimova for his story Wild Brandy, Lyn Lifshin for her poem Forced Buds, and Dan Gerber for his poem In Praise of Umberto Tapia. Information about all our contributors may be found in About the Authors.

For a change of pace, we are offering a simple link (below) to our Table of Contents rather than the "narrative tour" through the issue. Let us know if you prefer this format; send us your comments and suggestions for future issues by filling out our Guest Book or dropping us a note via email to fairfieldreview at hpmd dot com **

Thank you to all have supported The Fairfield Review with your donations, but more importantly by your reading and telling others. We continue to receive encouraging feedback on our first printed publication: The Best of the Fairfield Review: 1997 - 2002. The book, which highlights our favorite offerings from our first six years, is available on-line. Please take a peek, and order a copy for your summer reading. Your support goes directly towards the continuation of our free, on-line publication, and we thank you for your ongoing interest and enthusiasm on our behalf.

Starting with our Winter 2005 issue, we have changed the closing dates for submissions. Based on your feedback and the volume of work we are now receiving, we agreed that it was too long from the time authors sent us their work and when they heard our final decisions. Closing dates for the Winter issue are now September 30 and for the Summer issue March 31. Our reading cycle will start thereafter and run for 90 days.

As green sprouts from every blade and branch we are reminded of birth and rebirth; a new grandchild tells us this before any words grace her lips. We give thanks for life and hope. Look and listen with the wonder of a child; write with the wisdom of years.
