Watercolor based on photograph by David Lorenz Winston. | Tannenbaum
Sometimes
a path
through a wood,
as a fence
through a field,
takes a turn
here
and a jog
there,
dividing
even white
seamless
blankets of snow
that cover
all. | As the limbs
on this regal
oak,
which has stood
in the midst
of this scene
from the first,
stretch out
on either side,
rendering
our footsteps:
small,
our fences:
ripples,
our paths:
ever turning—
they cover all
beneath
a Christmas
crown.
