Christmas 2012

Waiting for the 7:23

And it whispers into the station

early and crowded as the raindrops

that have been falling for days

in late November,

the cold, wet air hovering

above freezing,

flirting with winter;

you write about the festive market

and i wonder why it has not

migrated south sooner

to jingle at the foot of the alps

already scarved with snow;

and i imagine all the times

that are late and early,

the ache of delay,

the surprise of the unexpected

and some that arrive

in the fullness of waiting.
