Lent 2003

This collection of poems marks the annual silent retreat in West Cornwall, CT, sponsored by St. Francis' Church in Stamford. This year's retreat was led by Hondi Brasco. The retreat theme was “Meeting Christ in the Depths of our Humanity: Lessons from Paul's Letter to the Philippians.”

Hondi wrote: Paul's letter to the Philippians is one of the richest texts in the New Testament. In this Retreat, we will explore different themes from the letter and their implications for us as individuals and as communities moving forward in the post 9/11 world. Through Retreat addresses, reflection, conversation, journaling and prayer, we will look at the following themes: Meeting Christ in the Depths of our Humanity: Christ's divinity is revealed in his humanity and the gift of his life for others. Where have we experienced Christ in the depths of our own humanity, or in the humanity of others? The Call of Love: What helps us to remain faithful and "press on toward the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus?" The Peace of God: When have we experienced "the peace of God that passes all understanding?" How does prayer transform our anxiety? Vision: What happens when we revision the world, remembering "whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just...?"
