Devil’s Darning Needle By Hugo DeSarro Dragonfly rigid on the fence, on tiptoe like a weathervane; horizontal wings of gossamer move back and forth in unison. Giant-eyed, you dart from link to link, stopping, starting in air, returning always to a chosen spot. I reach to touch and unafraid, annoyed, you sidestep in the air. Sinister sewer of ears and lips, with an awesome name and fearsome reputation, I find you gentle and benign. What brings you from the marshes on this warm and sunny day, naked and without your myths? Must I pretend to cover ears and lips to give you satisfaction? |
