Birth
By Nancy Row Scott

Mists
murky, rise
past a moon slit by stretched birches, Light
stripes the viridian forest
damp
dripping
wet
downward
onto a swollen carpet. Wild mushrooms
spread a mysterious fairy ring
a mound of moss swells, voluptuous, lush, green. The
milky fungus
oozes through the dense velvet. Under
smooth slippery umbrellas a
stem
bends
suckles silently
