Bass Player
by Halsted

i think i fell in love
with a man who plays the bass.
he needs forty pounds of strength
in each finger to hold down the strings.
he treats the skin of his fingers
carefully
so as to lose his calluses
he is tall
but does not stoop--
he knows music well
i do not
but listening to jazz
in the darkness
i feel i could do anything.
